Older split-level demo in a winter-worn pocket near St. Vincent de Paul
We got a call from a homeowner off the cul-de-sac streets near St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church after a heavy thaw exposed a mess in the basement and garage. The house sat in that 1980s-to-2000s pocket where the walls are bigger, but the framing still takes a beating when a harsh Brooklyn Park winter pushes moisture into the structure. I remember the smell of damp drywall and old insulation when we walked in. The family needed the debris out fast before contractors could start opening walls, and every extra day meant more exposed material, more mess, and a bigger headache for the renovation.
We rolled in one of our dumpsters, set it tight to the driveway, and kept the load area clear so the crew could work without stepping over debris. I had our driver place it where the truck could get a clean pickup, which matters on these narrower neighborhood streets. We hauled the drywall, trim, carpet, and busted cabinets as the demo moved room by room. By the end, the basement opened up clean and the contractor had room to start repairs. That family got back to the job instead of staring at a pile of winter damage.
You made a rough demo feel manageable, and we finally got the house back under control.
